Walking for Parkinson’s

MORE than 200 Hobart residents will lace up their shoes and set off from the GASP Pavilion at Wilkinson’s Point in April for the fourth annual Fred’s Walk for Parkinson’s.

Organised by the Fred Binns Parkinson’s Foundation, the annual event will be held on Sunday 7 April from 9.30am.

Organiser Di Binns said there are an estimated 3000 Tasmanians living with Parkinson’s disease.

“But unlike heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, we still do not know what causes it,” she said.

“That is why this walk, which aims to raise money for Parkinson’s disease research, is so important.”

The Fred Binns Parkinson’s Foundation is sponsoring a PhD student at the Menzies Research Institute in Hobart in a quest to find a cure for this debilitating disease.

The event will include three walks, designed for people with varying levels of fitness, with all walks beginning at 10am.

Fred’s Walk the Bay precedes World Parkinson’s Day on Wednesday 11 April.
