Lindisfarne FC claims special prize

THE Lindisfarne Nujet Two Blues are on cloud nine after their football club received an exclusive experience thanks to the North Melbourne Football Club and the 2016 FOX FOOTY Club Rewards Program.

Lindisfarne FC recently welcomed North Melbourne assistant coaches Brad Green and Darren Crocker, who ran a special training session for players at the Tasmanian Cricket Association Ground.

An initiative of Foxtel, the FOX FOOTY Club Rewards Program supports grassroots sport and recognises football clubs and the benefits they deliver to their local community.

In 2015, the Lindisfarne under-18 team organised a fundraiser for “Team Harris Hobart” in support of their teammate, Alex Harris, who needed major surgery for a brain tumour.

The players held a head-shaving and leg-waxing night where they raised $5,000 to help Alex with his cancer treatment journey.

Alex got through the first round of surgery and has returned to the club as a game-day trainer for his team while he continues to undergo further treatment.

Lindisfarne FC representative Martin Trinder said the club was delighted to be recognised by the FOX FOOTY Club Rewards Program for carrying out their on-field and off-field visions.

“Our club is ecstatic to have been recognised by the FOX FOOTY Club Rewards Program,” he said.

“We are very appreciative to Darren, Brad and the Kangaroos for the experience.

“For us, it is testimony to a number of hard working club members who strive to create a community focused and inclusive club.”

North Melbourne assistant coach Brad Green, whose own football journey started with George Town in Northern Tasmanian Football Association, said grassroots football clubs were the backbone for local communities.

“Grassroots clubs have an enormous role to play for their local community and its members, so we’re delighted to come down and visit the Lindisfarne Football Club and hopefully put a smile on the face of Alex,” he said.

“By giving these local clubs a behind-the-scenes look of a professional club and their AFL club coaching staff, these clubs [can] go away with an understanding of the levels of professionalism, education into the latest analysis that goes into the game and insight into the culture that shapes an elite club environment.”
