AS the Tasmanian weather gets progressively cooler, Friends Health & Fitness is urging parents not to neglect their child’s swimming lessons.
“It is sometimes all too tempting to forgo swimming lessons when the weather cools, but it’s important for children to continue to practice their skills all year round,” Friends Health & Fitness centre manager Belinda Lewis said.
“By taking a break in lessons over the winter months, children are often required to re-learn skills they have already mastered.
“By swimming in winter, children have the opportunity to build on and progress their swimming and survival skills in preparation for summer.”
Friends Health & Fitness is offering a number of term learn-to-swim programs to help children either master or begin their swimming skills.
Catering for children from three-years-of-age, the term three classes will commence Monday 18 July and run until Saturday 24 September.
Classes will run once a week, Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings.
Mrs Lewis said learn-to-swim programs were an excellent introduction for new swimmers, but also offered children who had already commenced lessons the opportunity to practice their skills each day.
She said children were encouraged to enrol in one or both of these school holiday programs.
“By participating in the school holiday programs, children can attain skills more quickly, while also having the added benefit of keeping them physically active,” Mrs Lewis said.
“With the centre’s 26-degree air temperature and 28-degree water temperature, your child will feel warm and comfortable regardless of the weather.
“Most of the children who participate in these programs go on to have a warm shower following their lessons, change into their pyjamas and then head home for dinner and bed.
“We recommend that children wear a beanie when they leave the centre and dash to the car.”
Regular term three classes will commence Monday 18 July and run until Saturday 24 September.
Classes will run once a week, Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings.
Enrolments for new swimmers in the term learn-to-swim programs are now open.
Children who have not swum at Friends Health & Fitness will require a free 10-minute assessment prior to enrolment to assess their level.
