VARIETY Tasmania has received a $10,000 grant from the Commonwealth Bank in reward for its efforts in supporting the health and wellbeing of Australian youth.
The children’s charity joins hundreds of other organisations across the country to share in the $2 million grant funding as part of the Commonwealth Bank 2015 Community Grants program, which saw more than 200 grants of up to $10,000 awarded by the bank.
Variety Tasmania state manager Luke Doyle said the grant would directly fund the next round of Variety ‘Heart of Gold’ scholarships to help children who were sick, disadvantaged or had special needs.
“When Variety Tasmania received the news that we were successful with our grant application we were thrilled, as this ensured that funding was secure for the next round of Variety scholarships,” he said.
“The Heart of Gold scholarships will allow children to chase their dreams and reach their full potential in a discipline they have shown some natural skill in, including sports, the arts or business.
“This will give them every chance of personal success in the future, where otherwise they would not have the resources to chase their dreams.”
Mr Doyle said the grant would fund up to seven scholarships over a 12-month period.
“This will dramatically benefit the lives of these children and their families,” he said.
“As we are a not-for-profit organisation, the support of the corporate sector is essential in order for us to continue to enhance the lives of Tasmanian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.”

Sorell Commonwealth Bank branch manager Maree Aitchison said it was delighted to support organisations across the country that were dedicated to bettering the health and wellbeing of Australian youth.
“The grant is an investment in our local community and we hope everyone at Variety Tasmania, and the young people they help, will feel the benefits,” she said.
