A THIRD-PLACE finish in the recent round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway in Victoria was just the confidence boost 22-year-old Lindisfarne local Shaun Dobson needed.
After recently returning from a neck injury sustained during his maiden American racing trip in late July, Mr Dobson ended his third race meeting of the 2015-2016 season with a solid podium result – his first in more than 12-months.
“Yeah, it was great to bring home a podium result and have a strong overall night,” the ACT #21 Essendon Ford/Quantum Quartz Designer Stone Supported Cool driver said.
“In our first race meeting of the season at Avalon we crashed out; in our second meeting at Sydney we managed to qualify into the feature race and finish, and last weekend we took another step forward by finishing on the podium.”
Mr Dobson’s night saw him qualify second in his heat group time trial, before going on to win his opening heat race, as well as run sixth in his second heat race.
These results qualified Mr Dobson out of position four for the feature race.
“Premier Speedway is a pretty tough track and that’s why it’s always good to start towards the front of the feature races,” he said.
“When you qualify towards the front of any feature race these days, it’s half the battle.
“From there, it’s all up to you to keep the car at the front, which was what I was able to do on the weekend.”
