Coal River Farm opens its gates

SOUTHERN Tasmania’s newest attraction – Coal River Farm – is now open with cheese, chocolate and farm production in full swing.

Developer and manager Melanie Leesong said the farm’s whole philosophy was based on growing and making as much as possible on site.

“The farm provides a special combination of small batch cheese, fine chocolate production, pick your own mixed berries and orchard fruit, and freshly prepared food,” she said.

“We are thrilled to be opening our family farm, which has an emphasis on Coal River Valley produce, to locals and visitors from near and far.

“Those who visit can see the cheese and chocolate being made daily, enjoy free tastings, visit our pigs and chickens and pick their own produce when it is in season.

“Visitors can also enjoy delicious farm fresh meals and indulge in Coal River Valley wines while enjoying the amazing views of the Coal River Valley.”

Mrs Leesong said young families were particularly welcome.

“We hope young people will get a lot out of seeing how food is made and where it comes from,” she said.

“Whenever someone visits us there will be something different, seasonal and unique to try.

“We like to view the farm as an extension of our living room and hope that people will enjoy the region as much as we do.”

One of Coal River Farm’s signature offerings is its own Real Hot Chocolate which has been “…a huge hit at local markets over the last few months”.

“Our hot chocolate has already garnered a loyal following and we find once people try a real hot chocolate they are a convert for life,” Mrs Leesong said.

“The hot chocolate will be a key feature of our farm kitchen along with our cheese as it comes online in the coming weeks.”

Coal River Farm is open seven days, 8am to 6pm with all day dining.
