THE Clarence Gymsports girls team took it up to competitors this April at the Tasmanian Gymnastics Championships held at the Kingborough Sports Centre.
The level seven team of Isobel Calvert, Charlotte Bouwmeester-Wedd, Charlotte Barnes, Zoe Brown, Sophie Burrows, Ella Curtain and Alana Langlois stepped up to the pressure by securing third place in the team event.
The club also took out two state champion positions, with Charlotte Bouwmeester-Wedd winning the level seven state champion and Isobel Calvert the level eight state champion.
Sixteen-year-old Isobel also qualified for the team to represent the state at the Australian Championships later this year.
Team coach Bridget Henwood said she was proud to see the girls perform well at such a high level.
“The girls have put in some really good hours at the training sessions, so they really deserve it,” she said.
“I love seeing them achieve, set their own goals and push themselves to achieve those goals and be successful.”
Isobel said she was not expecting to be state champion, but was really happy with the result.
“My goal is to be in finals at nationals in two weeks – the top two from every state get into finals,” she said.
Charlotte, aged 14, said she hoped to go to nationals in the next few years.
“I really enjoy gymnastics and it’s nice to have a set sport you’re passionate about,” she said.
“I think all the training is really worth it.”
