An Etsy day out

DISCOVER Tasmania’s best local creatives are converging this Christmas at Hobart’s Etsy Made Local Christmas Market.

Find the perfect gifts and meet the talented makers behind them on 30 November to 1 December at the Derwent Entertainment Centre.

Market organiser Cat Hocking and team will once again be bringing some of Tasmania’s best creatives together to help locals connect with the makers and designers behind the perfect Christmas gifts.

The market is part of a national event that will see cities from across the country celebrating the makers, designers and collectors that make up the creative community selling on Etsy.com, the online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods.

It also encourages people to look locally for this year’s Christmas gifting.

Ms Hocking said the Etsy Christmas Market was the perfect opportunity to find unique, affordable and meaningful gifts in the lead up to Christmas.

“In the three years since our first market, it has grown to double the number of vendors,” she said.

“The market has become so popular because customers get to meet local artisans, designers and collectors, have a chat about the process behind the products and see new product lines before they hit the online Etsy stores.

“People love to buy local for Christmas.”

More than 130 Tasmanian Etsy sellers from all over the state will be at the Etsy Made Local Market.

Products ranging from fairy gardens to fine art and everything in between reflect the great diversity of Tasmania’s creative community.

The event will give the people of Hobart a chance to discover some of the best of the region’s creatives, allowing them to connect with and buy directly from local makers and designers.

With more than 130 stalls in an undercover market, organisers are expecting a big turnout.

“With so many stallholders, the range will be very wide and varied,” Ms Hocking said.

“Following last year’s huge turnout, we’ve created wider aisles and added signage for a really comfortable shopping experience.

“Why battle the crowds in the city when free onsite parking makes this an easy day out to get all your Christmas shopping done in the one place.”

The market will be held over two days at the Derwent Entertainment Centre on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December from 10am to 4pm.

Entry is free and there is plenty of parking onsite.
