A plaque with a view

LATE Howrah resident David White has been memorialised in a very special way.

In honour of his life, Mr White has been given his very own memorial plaque on one of the seats that line the popular Tranmere Foreshore Trail.

An attraction for walkers, runners and cyclists alike, the trail provides beautiful views of the Derwent River all the way to Tranmere Point.

In 2011, the Rotary Club of Howrah installed five seats at various locations along the gravel track to allow community members opportunities to rest and enjoy the scenery.

Following their construction, it was decided that members of the public could sponsor a seat as a memorial to family members who had passed away.

On Saturday 4 July, Rotarians Vanessa Goodwin MLC, Graham Wolfe, Suzanne Watton and Lindsay Chivers accompanied Mr White’s wife, Valerie, and their son, William, to their sponsored seat where the plaque was installed.

Of the five seats provided by the club, two have now received memorial plaques.

If any members of the public are interested in sponsoring a memorial seat, contact the secretary of the Rotary Club of Howrah on 6248 6307.
