A modern oasis

By Harmony Garden Centre

IN a world that sees us surrounded with screens, concrete and bitumen, gardening helps us to reconnect with nature and to discover the health and wellbeing that plants bring to our lives.

Harmony Garden Centre has been transformed over the past two years and is now a modern oasis filled with colour, life and freshness.

Andrew and Angela Clark purchased the business from Andrew’s parents in 2015.

With a vision to create a leading garden and lifestyle destination to appeal not only to traditional gardeners but inspire and excite the next generation of plant lovers, the planning began.

The major changes began to happen in mid-2017 with the creation of the new showroom and relay of the outdoor display areas.

“We are thrilled with the results so far,” Mr Clark said.

“The looks of amazement and the wonderful comments from existing and new customers has been so encouraging.”

Younger people are also discovering the joys of plants.

There is huge interest in indoor plants and Harmony Garden Centre has become known as Tasmania’s indoor plant experts.

With strict quarantine regulations to import plants into the state, Harmony have renovated the delightful old glasshouse that was destined for demolition to create a beautiful, charming feature.

This not only looks fabulous but is now heated and allows Harmony to grow top-quality indoor plants that were previously hard to find within the state.

With regular visits from indoor plant groups and enthusiasts from all over the state, Harmony Garden Centre has become famous for its indoor plant selection and expert advice.

Growing fresh and healthy food at home has also seen a resurgence of popularity.

“Tasmania is known across the country for our fantastic cuisine,” Mr Clark said.

“We are so fortunate to have such a diverse range of food producing plants that can be grown in the home garden.

“Food grown at home is not only full of goodness and flavor, but you know that it is safe for the family to enjoy.”

As part of the celebration of great Tasmanian food and produce, the Harmony Farmers Market has been created as a community event, showcasing local produce and crafts.

Harmony Garden Centre has developed an area to host these markets and so far, has hosted two very successful events filled with some of the area’s best food and products from various producers.

Local condiments, wines, foods and fresh produce have delighted patrons and the Harmony Farmers Market will soon become a regular event.

Harmony Florist has also developed into a major part of the Harmony experience.

Ms Clark, a florist herself, has a team of talented florists to create beautiful bunches and arrangements for all occasions.

“We are so proud of how the business has come together,” Ms Clark said.

“For customers to be greeted with beautiful fresh flowers as they enter the showroom is a brilliant beginning to their visit.

“What was the original showroom has recently been transformed into a fabulous homeware and giftshop area, which compliments the florist area beautifully.”

Harmony Garden Centre is more than a botanical supplier and is now a wonderful retail experience filled with inspiration and freshness.

There are plans being developed now for a café and function area, so we look forward to the next stage of the Harmony Garden Centre adventure.
