Students get hands dirty for environment

LINDISFARNE Primary School students recently celebrated Planet Ark’s 20th annual National Tree Day by planting more native trees on the school property.

National Tree Day aims to revegetate the Australian landscape with native plants and encourage Australians to reconnect with their environment.

Each year more than 200,000 people take part in the initiative.

“I was thrilled to join students at Lindisfarne Primary for National Tree Day,” Liberal Member for Franklin Jacquie Petrusma said.

“2015 saw Planet Ark release a report for National Tree Day that showed how children who spend one third more time outside that their peers grow up to be happier adults.

“Helping to plant trees is also a great way for students to leave an enduring reminder of their time at school.”
