$200k to boost sporting oval

THE Risdon Vale sports oval will receive a badly needed facelift thanks to a Federal Government grant.

The Federal Government have announced $200,000 would be put into Risdon Vale oval to develop a new modern pavilion that can be used by male and female players and officials.

A canteen and viewing platform for spectators would also be included.

The investment by the Federal Government is part of the Community Sport Infrastructure Grant Program aiming to drive increased participation in sports and physical activity.

Senator Eric Abetz, Clarence Mayor Doug Chipman, Liberal Senate candidate Claire Chandler and Liberal candidate for Franklin Dean Young were in attendance.

“The Risdon Vale oval is the only major sports venue in the Risdon Vale area and it has become degraded over the last couple of years,” Mayor Chipman said.

“Particularly the toilet blocks and change rooms are in a really bad state at the moment.”

Mayor Chipman said the redevelopment would help ensure the facilities would match other venues around the state.

“If we can get regular good standard sport being played there then it’s going to encourage the local residents, particularly the youth, to become engaged and participate in sports such as football, cricket and soccer,” he said.

“It was really important that we enhanced the opportunity for young people in the Risdon Vale area to enjoy sport and recreation on the oval.”

Mayor Chipman said the project would cost approximately a million dollars in total and hoped it would be finished before the end of the year.
