Students take over Bellerive beach for triathlon challenge

MORE than 2120 students from 82 public and independent schools in the greater Hobart district converged on Bellerive Beach recently for the Community Assist Schools Triathlon Challenge.

 Students enjoyed the warm, sunny conditions as they competed in the second annual schools triathlon at Bellerive Beach recently.

On Thursday,  November 19 1600 primary school students from grades 3 to 6 took part in either individual or team events.

Close rivals battling for summer pennant

BELLERIVE Yacht Club (BYC) is an active place at the best of times but really comes alive through the summer sailing season from October to April. More than 70 boats have entered the popular Lewis Marine/Nautilus Marine Twilight Series held every Wednesday evening throughout the daylight savings period.

All the excitement of yacht racing can be viewed from many vantage points around Kangaroo Bluff with twilight racing starting and finishing off Victoria Esplanade from 5.50pm. Racing is conducted in four divisions with Series leaders at the time of writing being Insatiable (Patrick Hyman) in Division 1, Wildfire (Team Wildfire) in Division 2, Truant (Roel Van Steenis) in Division 3 and Nashira (Bob Fielding) in Division 4.

Aquatic Centre upgrade gets thumbs up

THE newly-upgraded Clarence Aquatic Centre recently had some important visitors as Federal and State politicians toured the complex’s newly refurbished facilities.

 Clarence Mayor Jock Campbell, Parliamentary secretary for infrastructure, transport, regional development and local government Maxine McKew, Federal Member for Franklin Julie Collins and Tasmanian Senator Catryna Bilyk tour the newly-upgraded Clarence Aquatic Centre.

The Clarence City Council applied for and received $546,000 in Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP) funding and has now completed a range of works on the aquatic centre, including an upgrade of the air and water heating to a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly system.
