Mornington roundabout review release requested

CLARENCE Alderman and Liberal candidate for Franklin, Tony Mulder, has called for the release of the Mornington roundabout review.

“The review was promised during the Pembroke election nearly six months ago but nothing appears to have happened,” Ald Mulder said.

“Minister Sturges’s previous suggestion that Cambridge Road traffic bound for the airport and east coast should use the right hand land and perform a complete circuit of the roundabout is counter-intuitive and noone seems to be doing it,” Ald Mulder said.

“Instead airport traffic must be in the left lane and cross two lanes of city bound traffic while tourists and locals who are not familiar with the arrangements, continue to be dangerously confused.

“Neither has the simple idea of painting airport symbols on the roadway happened. Two such symbols would clear up confusion, particularly for tourists and those who are only occasional users of this road,”Ald Mulder said

Ald Mulder said the immediate solution was to paint airport symbols on roadway (left lane). The mid-term solution was for left lane traffic to go to the city only and the right lane traffic to go to airport, Pass Rd and Howrah with a Tasman Highway off-ramp to Bligh St (near Gordons Hill Rd). The long-term solution was for traffic lights or a South Arm HIghway flyover and to extend Flagstaff link to Geilston Bay.

“As an alderman I have been fighting for resolutions to this issue. If elected, I will take the fight for this and similar issues throughout Franklin to the next level.”
