A GROUP of 25 grade 5 and 6 students from Bellerive Primary formed a company producing Christmas Yum Yum trees.
The enterprise program began last month with students becoming part of the company by paying $5 for a share price with a maximum of four shares able to be purchased.
Shareholders in the company then worked collectively to buy materials and make the trees which ranged in size, design and lolly type. The trees were sold at the school, local business shops and the Rosny College Shop and for use as a gift, Christmas decoration or a table centrepiece.
School principal Steven Hay acknowledged there had been many positive outcomes from this program.
“The students have developed skills and understanding about advertising, market research, sales, profit margins, cash flow and quality assurance and the whole experience has provided a greater awareness to students about the business world. However a key learning has been that hard work triggers success,” he said.
Students have mainly worked in their own time before and after school and during school break times with various roles being undertaken and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Grade 5 student Amelyn Burgos enjoyed the involvement in the program.
“It was fantastic being involved in creative work like designing Yum Yum trees and selling them and making a profit on our investment.” |
