Jump into free fitness training

Eastern Shore locals are jumping at the chance to access free health and fitness training thanks to the new Live Life Get Active camp.

Held every weekday at 12noon at St David’s Park, the camp features a free daily fitness workshop with activities ranging from circuit training to boxing and yoga.

Medibank funds the camp as part of its Free and Active initiative, an ongoing program that tackles physical inactivity and promotes community connectedness.

Live Life Get Active was launched in Hobart following data from the Medibank Better Health Index that revealed almost one in two Hobart locals were inactive, with 41 per cent having not exercised in the past three-months.

Personal trainer Jared Robinson, who runs the Hobart sessions, said the camps had “started with a bang.”

“We had almost a full camp (25 people) on our first day, even though it was more than 30 degrees,” he said.

“Exercise benefits us all in many ways and it’s important that we all put time aside every day to do something for ourselves.

“These camps are perfect for that – it’s 45-minutes of your day to do something that will have you feeling happier, fitter and more energised.

“We pride ourselves on running fun camps that cater for all levels of experience.

“The cross training and boxing classes are set up as interval training, which is great for improving fitness and toning, and the yoga is a lower intensity workout that is great for improving flexibility and calming the mind.”

Mr Robinson said participants would notice having more energy and an improved mood.

“This comes from not only exercising, but connecting with other people,” he said.

“Feedback from participants has all been great so far – a lot came in expecting a strict boot camp and were pleasantly surprised to find a fun environment with options for all fitness levels.

“The main goal of the camp is to do something for yourself and to have fun doing it.

“Many thanks to Hobart City Council for providing us with such a beautiful location and to Medibank for funding our camps.”

The Live Life Get Active camps will run for the next year.
