HOWRAH Primary School threw open it’s doors in late September to welcome all little learners and their families to its Early Years Learning Expo.
Organised by a number of the school’s kindergarten staff, the event featured a range of age appropriate learning activities in the areas of creative arts, imaginative play, early literacy and numeracy concepts, gross motor and fine motor skill development.
Howrah Primary School teacher and event organiser Purdie Reason said these activities allowed the children to engage, explore, discover, play and have fun.
“A real focus for our school this year has been on developing a Launch into Learning program in our community for children from birth to five-years-of-age that offers a rich and engaging learning environment for little people,” she said.
“We have been so pleased with the response – we have seen the number of families attending the sessions grow and the feedback from parents has been very positive.
“We are focussed on developing positive relationships with the children from a very young age and welcoming them into our school.
“We want to create an environment that enables children, as well as their families, to make connections with others and we know that developing a good home/school relationship has a positive impact on learning outcomes.
“It also provides familiarity with staff and the environment to enable a smooth transition to kindergarten.”
Jennie Self and her two sons Tyler, 4, and Nate, 2, attend the Launch into Learning session on a weekly basis.
“Both my boys really enjoy the sessions at Howrah and look forward to attending each week,” Ms Self said.
“The range of activities engage both my boys and the staff make us feel welcome at every session.”
