Waging a war on waste

ONE Community Together (OCT) is continuing its war on waste with its third annual Clarence Plains Spring Clean Up.

Held on Saturday 7 October from 9am-1pm, the event will include a free sausage sizzle, as well as a range of competitions and prizes.

Clarendon Vale resident and OCT member Linda Nicholson said the event would build on last year’s success, which saw 105 volunteers remove 50 cubic metres of rubbish.

“The annual Clarence Plains Spring Clean Up is one of the many initiatives of OCT that is working to build a Clarence Plains that is safer, welcoming, attractive and passionate about the future,” she said.

“To make large scale change, it is vital that this is a community drive, so OCT is calling on even more locals this year to don their gloves and offer some of their time.”

The two event meeting points will be the Clarendon Vale Neighbourhood Centre at 65 Mockridge Road, Clarendon Vale and the Rokeby Neighbourhood Centre at 85 Tollard Drive, Rokeby.

The National Garage Sale Trail will be held on 21-22 October.

Residents can register a garage sale for free by going to the Garage Sale Trail website at www.garagesaletrail.com.au.

The Clarence City Council’s hardwaste collection dates are as follows: 2 November for Glebe Hill, 14 November for Rokeby, 22 November for Oakdowns and 28 November for Clarendon Vale.

Hardwaste must be placed out on the nature strip by 6am on the collection day.
