IT was the last game of a busy weekend for the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Football Club (Easts) when the Taroona Rugby Club “Penguins” ventured over to our turf for the senior’s game on 29 July.
The game started with Easts applying sustained pressure to the Penguins, with Jake Hyland eventually cracking them and converting his own try.
Then followed a period with mistakes by both sides, until Richard McNair swooped and scored out wide.
Jake again added the extras, but Taroona had us under great pressure, forcing us to defend our line for around 15-minutes before Jake made two good clearing kicks.
We managed to get a penalty, which Jake duly slotted.
From the kick-off we attacked again quickly, with good runs by Robbie Casboult and Richard McNair culminating in a try by Faz, with Jake converting again.
Half time arrived, 24-0.
The second half became a bit of a Sam Williams show, with him scoring first and extras by Jake.
Taroona eventually kicked through to score, but missed the conversion.
A big hit by Wiggy resulted in a turnover and another Sam-Jake combination.
Robbie Casboult then got among the action by scoring a try, but Jake had a rare miss.
A nice run by Robbie again, who unloaded to Sam for his third and Jake was back on target.
Leon Thompson thought he’d better get a try before hostilities were called off and did just that.
It was followed by another rare miss by Jake.
The final score a 55-10 victory.
Easts’ next home game against the Tasmanian University Rugby Union Football Club will be held at North Warrane Oval on 19 August for a 2.30pm kick off.
Entry is free and local families are encouraged to come along to support local rugby.
