Luma – much more than just a restaurant

FROM the moment you walk through the mammoth wooden doors of new restaurant and bar Luma, you know you are set for an experience well out of the ordinary.

Located in Cambridge Centre next to Red Sqaure Café, the venue is designed around a hand built wood-fired oven.

In front of the oven lays a concrete communal chef’s table that seats up to 18-people, where food in prepared in full view of the restaurant’s guests.

If you haven’t seen a pizza cooked by a skilled “pizzaiolo” in 90-seconds or less, then it’s really a sight to behold.

A pizzaiolo is for pizza, what a barista is too coffee.

Luma owner Adrian Beckitt said the restaurant’s vibe was relaxed and not overly formal.

“We invite you to drop in any time of day and just enjoy the beautiful space,” he said.

“Much more than just a restaurant, Luma is a warm and relaxing place to catch up with friends over a drink.”

The all-day grazing menu features a lot more than just pizza and includes everything from creative bar snacks like bacon candy and house smoked nuts to small plates of lamb ribs, oysters and pork belly.

Luma also stocks six taps of craft beer and local cider and features local micro-breweries like Last Rites and Little Rivers, with selections rotating regularly.

Mr Beckitt said the restaurant’s pizza style was what they called “neo-neoplitan.”

“Our pizzas are inspired by the traditional hand stretched, stone cooked pizzas of Naples, but spun in a new direction,” he said.

“Our flavour combinations take pizza in a new direction – our “Oh Deer” pizza, for example, features pinot braised venison shoulder, salsa verde, pickled red onion and olive crumb.

“The entire menu is a mixture of classical styles with a fun, tongue-in-cheek twist.

“We recommend you drop in and see us in person, but if you’re interested in takeaway, you can view our menu and order online at www.luma.mobi2go.com or through our very own smartphone ordering app called Luma Woodfired Pizza.”

Luma also has plans to regularly feature live music, particularly during the warmer months.
