THE passion and creative workmanship of hundreds of street art and hip-hop aficiondas was on show recently at this year’s highly successful ST.ART Street Art and Music Festival.

This year, even more panels were put up to accommodate the local and mainland artists, and every panel was full of colourful new pieces by the end of the day.

Winners of the Street Art Competition were Reuben Holford – senior aerosol, Clay Crozier – senior stencil, Brian Hewitt – intermediate aerosol, Georgia Avent – intermediate stencil, Jed Lamoreaux – junior stencil, and Charlie Gerke – junior aerosol.

The annual festival featured the stencil and aerosol art exhibition and competition, bag stencilling, live spray demos, b-boy demonstrations, a free barbecue, local DJs and live hip-hop acts, and free spraying on panels with a visiting guest artists.

Visiting street artist from Melbourne, Tim Phibs, said competitions like ST.ART helped portray the growing hip-hop subculture in a positive light.

“These sorts of things have often been portrayed negatively, so I think this sort of event allows people to see it for what it really is – art,” he said.
