OVER the past eight weeks, 40 young children have been participating in ‘Life. Be in it’s’ mini sport program on the Eastern Shore.
As part of the continuing expansion of its junior roster, the new mini sports program offers children, from the ages of three to five, the opportunity to experience a variety of sports in an enjoyable, friendly and safe indoor environment.
‘Life. Be in it’ state manager and program creator Stephen Dimsey said the mini sport program teaches children basic sport skills mixed with fun games and activities.
“We have been hosting soccer classes on Mondays and Fridays in Bellerive, and due to popularity, we are already expanding to host classes at Howrah.
“The classes have been a real hit, so we’re really excited that we are able to offer more of them on the Eastern Shore.”
While the children do not play the actual games associated with the chosen sport, they will be taught basic skills such as hand-eye coordination, coordination, balance and agility, while building their general fitness.
The mini sports program provides a platform for children to develop their confidence and independence, and to build important social skills through teamwork and sharing.
Parents also play a key role in the program and are highly encouraged to stay for the duration of the session.
Term two will begin at the end of September and each term runs for eight weeks. The coming roster will feature a range of basketball and netball skills and activities.
Soccer, AFL, netball, basketball and a combination of cricket, tennis and hockey will be introduced in the summer months.
Each class will run for 45 minutes. Sessions will be held on Monday mornings in Howrah and Friday mornings in Bellerive.
Cost is $80 for an eight-week term.
Parents interested should call ‘Life. Be in it’ on 6229 5600 to book as numbers per class are limited.
