Mountain biker gears up for championships

ACTON Park resident Marc Gluskie has recently been selected by Orienteering Australia to be part of a four-man team to compete in the Junior World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships in Italy this coming August.

The team was selected following two days of selection trials that took place in rugged conditions at Korweinguboora, near Daylesford in Victoria.

Marc competes in his Australian outfit in Montalegra, Portugal in July 2010.

Marc first began mountain bike orienteering in 2008 and regularly competes in local mountain bike cross-country races. When not racing, Marc uses the excellent terrain situated within the Clarence mountain bike park for training.

The 18-year-old Guilford Young College student was a member of the inaugural junior team which last year, successfully competed in Montalegra, Portugal.

To assist in his travel costs, the Clarence City Council provided Marc with a Quick Response Grant.

The 2011 world championships are being held in and around the city of Vicenza, just to the west of Venice.
