Beaches Restaurant, 8 Surf Road, Seven Mile Beach 6248 1156

THERE’S a new chef, a new menu, and I am looking forward to checking it out in the next couple of weeks. Watch this space.
Taste of Asia, Sandy Bay Road (near Magnet Court)
THE Caesar Queen, Junior Friday and I caught up for a lovely lunch at Taste of Asia last month. Its prices are excellent, and we’d recommend the barbecue pork with rice, or the mixed two-course specials. They had a great duck dish for $14 which was an absolute bargain. You can also have the choice of plain or fried rice with your meal.
Augusto Cafe, 100A Augusta Road, Lenah Valley 0418 281 203
TONY and Swish Heath, formerly at The Republic Hotel, have opened up Augusto’s and the breakfasts are already legendary. They are open Monday to Friday from 7:30 am till 5 pm Saturday from 8.30 am till 4 pm and Sundays from 8.30 am till 3 pm. As well as the breakfast you can enjoy a delicious array of cakes including gluten free products. And Astro, the barista is on hand for the coffee addicts. Eventually the restaurant will apply for a licence.

TRAVEL down memory lane, we did, a few of us from Friday lunch club. The roasts of the day were the whole baked ham and roast lamb. My favourite is the baked ham which is a knockout. There’s a range of vegetables and salads to choose from and the great thing is that you can serve yourself. Open Monday to Thursdays and you can use a Seniors Card for discounts.
I hadn’t seen the chocolate fountain before, so I recommend you don’t bring kiddies in. Good heavens it is spectacular. We were well looked after by Francisco the waiter and Kelly the restaurant manager.
UMAI sushi bar, lower level, Eastlands 6244 7188
ON my way to go shopping at Eastlands I thought to myself, a Japanese place would be nice here. And, surprise, surprise, there was one! Tucked away close to a supermarket, I found a gem of a salad! Abalone. There’s a full range of sushi and sashimi. The platters look impressive and the prices are amazingly sensible. They also have bento boxes ($12.80 – $13.80) plus miso soup.
AROUND THE TOWN
CARLTON Cafe has changed hands and will be the new site for Dumpling World.
Kelty Farm, organic produce from Woodbridge, (Cert. No. TM79) phone 6267 4253 was a new one on me. I tried the eye fillet steak and was most impressed. Contact the company on the above number to find out where the closest retailer is and you won’t be disappointed. The meat was superb.
Burger got Soul, is situated at 160 Sandy Bay Road phone 6223 5559. There are 24 gourmet burgers to choose from and the feedback I have received has all been good.
