Weather gods smile on school fair

THE sun made several bright appearances as crowds gathered recently at Emmanuel Christian School’s fair in Rokeby.

The annual fair attracted large numbers of people to enjoy the variety of events on offer including rides, show bags, hot food, fairy floss, auctions, music, and the ever-popular Oliebollen.

Oliebollen, a Dutch treat, has become a tradition at the Emmanuel Fair and many queued to enjoy the sugary, fruit doughnut.

A ‘peddler’s parade’ proved to be the highlight of the day, with Kindergarten students peddling their treats in creative costume to the delight of onlookers.

Local police and fire brigade supported the event and allowed a handful of very excited children to sound the siren and sit on the police bike and in the fire truck.

A small red fire engine built by students in the school’s automotive technology classes gave excited children rides around the school oval.

The fair offered something for everyone with a couple of frisky llamas to delight animal lovers and a growers market that sold everything from plants to field mushrooms.

“This fair isn’t just a fundraiser for our school – it’s another opportunity for us to meet others in the local community and show them what makes our school so special,” Emmanuel School principal Sue Dishington said.

“We have a fantastic parent community that supports the school and that works in partnership with us to make this school such a great one. The success of this fair is a wonderful example of that.”
