CLARENCE City Council recently opened improvements to the highly popular section of the Clarence foreshore trail on Second Bluff between Bellerive Beach and Howrah Beach at a cost of $50,000.
Improvements to the track’s safety will open up this beautiful part of Bellerive, with views down the Derwent Estuary to Bruny Island and South Arm, to walkers of all ages and abilities.

Acting Mayor of Clarence, Doug Chipman said that Clarence City Council had closed the unsafe and worn sandstone steps and adjoining wooden steps, and realigned the track so that steps were no longer required.
“This will be a real benefit to residents and visitors with mobility problems,” Alderman Chipman said.
“Council has also revegetated the area with native species, and a stone seat will be installed to allow visitors to enjoy the view at their leisure.”
Council has also been busy working on the Tracks and Trails network in other parts of the city, including an upgrade of the Roches Beach track and construction of a new entrance track and steps at Waverley Flora Park.
Council began construction of the sandstone steps on the Waverley Street access into the park in late 2009 and completed the access track in April 2010.
What was a steep and eroded access track to Mornington Hill is now a stable surface that addresses the erosion issues caused by the original dirt track.
The sandstone was sourced locally from within Waverley Flora Park and a traditional feathers and wedges technique was adopted to extract the flagstone.
