LOCALS who use South Arm Highway have been voicing their concerns over the lack of State Government action to fix the highly-congested road and traffic delays as the local community grows.

Jacquie Petrusma talks to local residents on the corner of Burtonia St Rokeby who are concerned with the traffic issue.
“People who live in and around the Rokeby area face considerable delays every morning trying to get onto the South Arm Highway from the major access roads Burtonia Street, Diosma Street and Hawthorn Place,” Liberal candidate for Franklin Jacquie Petrusma said.
Residents who live at Lauderdale and South Arm are also starting to use Acton Road as a thoroughfare to the Tasman Highway because of the delays they experience due to traffic congestion.
The traffic volume on South Arm Highway is more than 17,000 vehicles a day which is a considerable number on a two-lane road. The existing highway needs to be expanded to cater for the future urban developments of the Droughty Point, Oakdowns, Clarence Plains and South Arm areas.
“Due to the concerns raised by locals I have had a meeting with representatives from DIER with regard to the Rokeby Bypass to try and find out why the State government hasn’t as yet taken action to fix this critical artery. DIER has assured me it is currently working to determine the best future transport options.”
Jacquie Petrusma said she would be working hard to ensure that the community was kept fully informed of what plans are put into place to fix this road.
